GOOD POTATO SEASON
CROPS AT PUKEKOHE [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE. Saturday The growth.of potato crops in the Pukekoho district recently has been good and there is promise of heavy yields. Since the frosts ended there has been rio cold rain, but the rainfall has been sufficient to keep the ground moist enough for the favourable advancement of the crops. The tops of the plants are very bushy and appear healthy. On one property on Pukekohe Hill last -week eight experienced Maoris dug 437 sugar bags of potatoes in two days. On one day a Maori' dug 52 bags and another 38 bags. As a Maori's average digging is about 20 bags a day, the achievements were outstanding. A fali in the price of potatoes has ,-becked the digging a little and at present there is ample labour available.
