Ward, of Cambridge, and Miss E. J. Watts, Ashburton, are at the Station Hotel. Mrs. F. A. Brett returned by tho Niagara yesterday after a tour abroad. She visited Britain, France, Italy, Spain and Canada. Miss B. Manyon, of Wellington, Mrs. E. F. Pcacocke, Hamilton, Mrs. A. S. Waite, England, and Mrs. Seager, of Fiji, aro at Hotel Stonohurst. Mrs. Aubrey Pollock, of London, Mrs. C. M. Barclay-Harvey and Miss Violet Barclay-Harvey, London, and Mrs. J. A. Browne, Sydney, are at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. D. R. Welch and Mrs. Joy, who have been the guests of the Misses Loundons, of Epsom, while attending the Plunket Conference, returned to Ngaruawahia yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Smith, of Paparoa, are spending a few weeks at Kaipara Flats, Auckland, and at Whangarei, prior to leaving for the Bay of Islands for tho Christmas holidays. Miss Rose Maher, manageress of Princes Gate, Rotorua, returned by the Niagara yesterday from a trip abroad, during which she visited Britain and the Continent. She attended the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin. She is at Hotel Cargen. Miss Ngaio Marsh, daughter of Mr. H. E. Marsh, of Christchurch, returned by the Niagara yesterday after five years spent in London, where she is in business as a house decorator. Fh<s left last evening by train for the South. After a visit to Christchurch she will return to London. The monthly meeting of the Hoe-o-Tainui branch of the League of Mothers was held recently. There was a large gathering of members and visitors from the To Hoe Women's Institute, and from Tahuna. Mrs. G. H. Wilson, of Auckland, gave an interesting address on "The Passion Play of Ober Ammergau," which was much appreciated.
An enjoyable musical afternoon was held at the studio, Union Buildings, on Saturday afternoon, when members of Miss Alice Law's "Club of Music Friends" gave a programme of duos, quartettes and concertos. The room was artistically decorated with bowls of Iceland poppies, roses and arum lilies and there were many guests present. Items were contributed by Misses Alice E. Law, M. Reid, M. Nathan, E. Brownlee, J. Millar, E. Bagley, L. Martin, J. Jolly, A. Wilson, E. Frater and Mesdarnes 51. Clark and E. Howse.
