CONTESTS FOR STUDENTS POSTERS AND ADVERTISEMENTS A total of 57 entries has been received in tho series of poster and newsjpaper advertising- layout competitions for commercial art students arranged by the advertising group of the Auckland Clumber of Commerce. The contests comprise two.for newspaper advertising and three for poster designs, leading firms having donated prizes of £2 2s and £1 Is in each case. There are six entries for a newspaper display advertisement entitled "Help Unemployed Youth," for prizes given by Messrs. Wilson and Horton, Limited. A display advertisement having as its subject the advantages of newspaper advertising, for which prizes have been donated by New Zealand Newspapers, Limited, has attracted seven entries. There are 19 entries for a poster advertising New Zealand wool, sponsored by Messrs. Chandler and Company, and 16 for one stressing the merits of New Zealand-made goods, for which the Auckland Manufacturers' Association has given prizes. For a poster for any foodstuff sold in the Dominion there are nine entries. Prizes have been donated in this contest by the Goldfinch Company, Limited. > The judges in the newspaper section are Messrs. A. Goodwin, C. M. Cox, F. W. Petterd, F. do Malmanche, R. E- Ash • and G. (1 Malcolm, and in the poster competitions, Messrs. J. Turkington, S. G. Peek, A. Goodwin, A. J. Hipwell and E. C. Holdsworth. All the designs submitted will be placed on display in the upstairs hall of tho Chamber of Commerce oil Tuesday evening, when Mr. Hipwell will give an address on commercial art.
