ONEHUNGA INTERESTS

MANUKAU BOAT HARBOUR The question of the boat harbour wall on the Manukau and tho closing of Geddes Basin, was advanced a further stage* at a meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last evening. Tho Auckland Harbour Board wrote stating that in view of the assurance given by tho council that the entrance to the basin reserve would not bo closed until the boat harbour wall was completed the board was willing to waive its objection to the vesting in the council of a strip of land on which to build the required embankment across the busin. The foreman reported that work on the boat harbour wall and also on the wall across the mouth of the basin was now being carried out. The Onehunga-Manukau Chamber of Commerce requested a conference with tho council to discuss the action of tho Unemployment Board in sending married men to country camps. The Mayor. Mr. E. Morton, said that from information ho had received there was no likelihood of any married men being sent from Onehunga. It was decided to defer tho conference until it was found necessary to take joint action. At the request of the Manukau County Council it was agreed to confer with representatives of that body to discuss fira protection in the Mangere district. A sickness and accident scheme for the employees of the council is now under the consideration o! a sub-committee.
