STORY TO OBTAIN GOODS MAN ADMITTED TO PROBATION Two charges of having obtained g«ods on credit by false pretences at Otahuhu and Manurewa in July were admitted in the Otahuhu Police Court yesterday by Karaka Kerepa, a native, aged 65. Sergeant A. E. Rowcll 'said that ac j cused lived in the Waikato and .had possessed an old motor-car, in which he travelled round the district and imposed on tradespeople, ft had been his practice to go to shops and get goods, his story being that he was expecting money from the Public Trustee. Inquiries had been made and it was found accused's wife received about £ls yearly from the Native Trustee. At the time of the offences a half-yearly payment had actually been due, but nothing would be paid out, as there were numerous orders against the amount. Accused was convicted and admitted to probation for 12 months, and ordered to make restitution of tho amounts owing.
