THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE ACTIVE TRADING IN WAIHIS Active trading in Waihi shares was a feature of operations oil the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. 'lhe shares, on which an interim dividend of Is is duo to-day, advanced in five transactions to 18s 6d, the highest point reached for at least five years. Otherwise, conditions were dull and values were slightly easier. Inquiry for Government securities was not as widespread as previously and buying support was weaker. Offers for the 1937 5£ bonds and stock wore unchanged at £IOO, but the 1038 4J,- per cent were sought 2s 6d lower at £96 10s, in spite of the fact that the half-yearly interest on the last-named is payable to-day. A parcel of 1936 5i per cent stock changed hands 20s higher at £IOO. Movements in banks were due principally to concessions by sellers. New Zealands were available 9d lower at 3d and buyers, after an early fall of 6d to 44s 6d, replaced offers unchanged at 455. For Commercials, quotations were Id lower at 14s 9d and a lot was secured 2d lower at 14s 7d, with offers unchanged at 14s sd. Nationals of Australasia, £5 paid, were sought Is 6d higher at £5 12s 6d, but there was a shading in offers for Nationals of New Zealand. Insurance issuos were slightly firmer. New Zcalands were released unchanged at 43s 6d, after which offers were advanced 4d to 43s 4d, holders being quoted 3d lower at 43s 9d. Buyers of South British moved forward by 3d to 575, at which price a sale, 9d lower, took place. For Queenslands offers rose 2s to 475, and a holder appeared at 51s. Ground was lost by leading industrial issues. New Zealand Breweries wero available 6d lower at 27s 6d and buyers came forward at 25s 6d. Offers at 30s 6d were made for British Tobaccos, which wero quoted 6d lower at 31s 9d. Holders of Colonial Sugars quoted 10s lower at £49 10s, prompting offers at £4B 10s. Kauri Timbers were done 10jd lower at lis 9d and New Zealand Refrigerating, 10s paid, changed hands 5d lower at 2s 7d. Higher levels were reached in tho bidding for leading mining issues. On sale Waihis advanced by stages to 18s 6d, a total rise of 6d. Closing offers were 3d higher at 18s 4d and quotations at 18s 6d were 2d in advance. A sale in Grand Junctions unchanged at, 3s 3d was accompanied by a rise in offers and quotations. In Mount Lyells business was done at 20s 6d, which is Is 5d lower than the last previous sale. Blackwaters changed hands Is 3d higher at 19s.
