INCREASE IN CUSTOMS

REVENUE AT AUCKLAND FIGURES FOR TEN MONTHS PETROL RECEIPTS STILL LOWER An increase of £10,365 in revenue from customs duties was recorded in Auckland last month, compared with October, 1931. Tho total was £158,863, as against £148,498 in tho corresponding month last year. Thero was, however, a decrease of £5460, compared with tho figure for September this year, when £164,323 was collected. Tho figures for the first 10 months of tho year show a considerable increase, tho total being £1,626,131, compared with £1,242,589 in tho corresponding period last year, an increase of £383,542. Tho revenuo derived from petrol taxation arid tyro duties Inst, month was £40,016, compared with £44,501 in October, 1931, a decrease of £4485. From both sources tho revenuo for tho first 10 months of tho year was £394,732, a decrease of £47,835 on tho 1931 total of £442,567. Total revenue received in Auckland last month under tho tlireo heads was £198,879, compared with £192,999 in October, 1931, an increase of £SBBO. For tho 10 months' period the total this year was £2,020,863, compared with £1,685,156 for tho corresponding period of 1931, an increase of £335.707. Motor Taxes and Beer Duty A comparison of the total receipts from petrol taxation and tyro duties for the 10 months is made in tho appended table. Motor spirit is calculated at the old rate of 6d a gallon for purposes of comparison, tho additional tax, which goes to swell the Consolidated Fund, being accounted for in the customs revenue. The beer duty collected last month amounted to £10,139, compared with £9709 in October, 1931, an increase of £430. Monday Tho customs returns at Dunedin for Iho month ended to-day were £47,672, against £49,147 for the corresponding month last year. Beer duty was £24.792 as against £15,852. The molor tyre tax was £777 compared with £730 for October last year and the petrol tax amounted to £13,754, against £15,681.
