DICKENS' FAMILY
The retirement, as Common Serjeant of the City of London, of Sir Henry Dickens, says a writer in the Observer, will deprive public life of a name that lias been a household word for a hundred years, to which he has added tho dignity of long and admirable service. Dickens had in all 10 children, and the list of the names is interesting in view of the associations:Charles Culliford Boz (born 1837). Mary (born 1838). Kate Macready (born 1839). Walter Landor (born 1841). Francis Jeffrey (born 1841). ' Alfred Tennyson (born 18461. Sydney Smith Haldimand (born 1847). Henry Fielding (born 1849). Dora Annie (born 1850). Edward Bulwer Lytton (born 1852). It would not be easy to find a family cirde that embraces so many famous names. No one, however, seems to have identified the " Culliford." Dora pot her name from the first wife in " David Copperfield," on which tho author was busy at the time.
