MARKETING OF PRODUCE
DAIRY BOARD'S WORK ACTIVITIES IN ADVERTISING •[from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Friday "The central point in the board's purpose is improvement in marketing," said Mr. W. Grounds, representative of No. 1 Ward on the Dairy Produce Board, in addressing a meeting of dairy farmers at Pukekoho last evening on the activities of the board. The meeting was in pursuance of a decision of members to convene each yeat meatings in their respective wards to explain the activities of the board. Mr. Dynes-Fulton, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, presided. For the year ended July 31 last the board had spent £17,555 in advertising New Zealand dairy produce in Great Britain, said Mr. Grounds. The method was to select an area and carry out an intensive campaign there in newspaper advertising, combined with shop window displays by retailers who were sympathetic. In addition, at exhibitions samples of New Zealand butter and cheese were given out. In these ways the purchase of Dominion produce by the householders was being cultivated in a scientific manner. Mr. Grounds mentioned that during the year the board had also provided £3803 to assist dairy research at Massey College and £5855 to help the herd-testing movement over a difficult period. The meeting expressed approval of the holding of ward conferences annually.
