THE STRAWBERRY SEASON SOME DELECTABLE RECIPES CONDITIONS OF CONTEST The Hf.halt) cookery competition this week will bo one dealing with strawberries—tli.it. most, delicious of summer fruits. £fc "may not, bo generally known that this fruit is noted for the tonic acids or salts that it contains. Jn sonic varieties the tang of tho salts is as noticeable as that of a lemon, which is equally beneficial. In addition, the tiny seeds on the outside of tho strawberry add " roughage " to the wholesome qualities of tho pulp. Because of their acids and bright colour, strawberries combine most effectively and, it might be added, most wholesomely, with all cako, pastry and floury dishes. COMPETITION No. 15 First prize, £1 Is; second prize, 10s 6d. Three Unusual Ways of Using Strawberries, these to include a Conserve, a Dinner Sweet, and a Filling. As before, tho prizes offered are one guinea for the fr'st and half a guinea for the second. Other meritorious entries will be. accepted at the rate of 2s 6d each and published. 4 Tho judging will be carried out by Mrs. A. M. Mann, lady demonstrator at the Auckland Gas Company's cookery department. Recipes may be written or typed. If not typed they should bo written clearly in ink on one side of tho paper only. The name and full address of the competitor, including street and house number, should be written on. a separate slip of paper. Entries should bo addressed: New Zealand llerald, Auckland, and competitors are asked to write on the outside of tho envelope " Cookery Competition No. 15." Entries will bo received up to the last mail to-night,-' and the announcement of the. winning competitors will bo made on Wednesday, November 2.
