SYDNEY'S BIG BRIDGE
VEHICLE TOLL REVENUE ESTIMATE GREATLY EXCEEDED Information given by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Bruxner, in the Legislative Assembly of New South has shown that the proceeds from toll on vehicles crossing the Harbour Bridge considerably exceeded the estimate of his predecessor. Mr. Bruxner said that vehicle tolls 011 the bridge—from tho*g»pening of the bridge 011 March 19 to September 30, just, over six months —was £77,967. When the- present 101 l rates were fixed, it was estimated that they would return ,1 revenue of £120,000 a year. Th 6 six months from tho end of September to the end of March next, comprising tho major portion of tho warm weather seasons, should return an even greater total than that for the other half-year. Thus, the total for tho first year of the bridge may exceed tlie estimate by nearly 59 per cent. Mr. Bruxner also stated that the total amount received from the rating provisions of the Sydney Harbour Bridge Act from 1922-23 to 1931-32 was £1,376.113. The Transport Commissioners were considering the question of the amount to bo paid by the railway and tramway authorities on account of passengers carried across the bridge.
