WHEAT DOWN AGAIN

MARKET AT WINNIPEG.. QUESTION OF A BONUS EXPORTS FROM VANCOUVER OTTAWA, Oct. 26 A message from Winnipeg states that wheat prices touched new seasonal low levels to-day, with losses of 1 3-8 cents to 17-8 cents. The further fall in prices no doubt will bring the question of Government support of the market into the House of Commons. Many rumours have been prevalent that the Dominion has secretly supported the market at times in the past, but the Government has never stated whether it ,was doing so. The announcement that no bonus would be given to wheatgrowers this year has no connection with support or otherwise of the grain exchange. Last year the Government gave the prairie farmers a bonus of 5 cents a bushel. A message from Vancouver states that wheat exports from that port doubled those of 1931 to-day, totalling 18,000,000 bushels. Bookings to the end of December total' 14,000,000 bushels, of which 11,000,000 bushels, are for Britain and the rest for the Orient. FUTURES AT CHICAGO A FURTHER DECLINE LOWEST RATES ON RECORD CHICAGO, Oct. 26 Wheat futures s declined further to-day at Chicago. Closing rates were as follows, yesterday's quotations being in parentheses) :—December, 44-J cents a bushel (45 3-8); May, 50 cents (51); July, 51* cents (52 1-8). New York quotation for cash, 53 3-8 cents (54). To-day's prices are the lowest ever recorded on the Chicago Board of Trade. At a few interior stations bidding on any basis was entirely suspended. Cash prices for wheat and corn from southwestern States were less than half the freight charges to Chicago. The price of Kansas wheat was 20 cents, approximately a quarter of the cost of production. THE MARKET BASKET ISLAND ORANGES SCARCE VERY FEW STRAWBERRIES Fruit and vegetable prices show the only variations of importance in the retail food quotations this week. Strawberries are still very scarce, Captain Cook retailing at 2s to 2s 6d a chip. Tree- tomatoes are exhausted and Island oranges, of which very few are available,®, are gelling at Five to six for a shilling. Further supplier are expected on Tuesday. Bananas and grapefruit are slightly dearer. Asparagus, both local and Tauranga, is dearer and as the season is drawing to a close, only poor specimens are obtainable.
