THE OTTAWA AGREEMENT

Sir, —Tn your issue of October 22 appears an item, "By Telegaph.—Special Reporter,"- referring to my party's attitude and action concerning the Ottawa agreement, and incidentally to myself. It is evident that your reporter imagines lie is more familiar with Parliamentary procedure than i, but equally evident that he is mistaken. I gave my voice emphatically against the resolutions, and would do so again to-morrow and the next day, simply because I am firmly convinced that they are disadvantageous, particularly to many of our manufacturers. That is no reason, however, why I should divide the House on this particular issue—in the circumstances a mere waste of time and effort. I am at least grateful to your special reporter for placing my protest on record, even though the explanation of his telegram would seem to be that he imagines, like a great many other mistaken people, apparently including yourself, that the Labour Party is a kind of amorphous mass, its members enjoying even less liberty than those of the Government Party. In order to disabuse the minds of those of your readers who may be obsessed with this idea, will you please accept mv assurance that I have never enjoyed greater, if as much, liberty of individual judgment and action than, or as, I do as a member of the Labour Party. Clyde Carh.
