DIRT TRACK RACING
RETURN OF A. MATTSON The champion New Zealand dirt track rider A. Mattson, who has been engaged during the last six months in motor-cycle racing in England, returned from London by the Rangitiki yesterday. Owing to an accident while training in the Isle of Man he was unable to compete in the classic T.T. race, in which he had entered as a New Zealand representative. He stated yesterday that while training in mountainous country he encountered a fog and in a crash which followed he broke his thumb. Mattson has been riding at the Brandon track at Coventry and he believes lie has considerably benefited by the experience. "The speed track in Auckland is bettci than most tracks I have seen and compares favourably with the best," he said.
