, The study of " Great Expectations " was- advanced a further stage by the Auckland Dickens Fellowship last evening, the president, Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, being in the chair. Miss Statham was in charge of the programme, which included the following readings Pip as Investigator," the Rev. C. E. " Start of Pip's Journey to his Old Home," Mr. H. C. Robinson; " Pip's Encounter with Old Orlick in the Marshes, Mr. F. S. Townley Little; " Magwitch's Attempted Escape," Mr. R. Norris; " Wemmick's Wedding," Mr. C. Kidson. An interesting discussion on the character c f Pip followed, the speakers being Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, Mrs. Wood, Miss Chalmers. Miss Grant, the Rev. C. E. Perkins, Messrs. H. C. Robinson, J. W. Kealy, W- E. Arey and J. E. Green*
