CHARGES OF UTTERING BARMAN FOUND GUILTY [BY TEJjEGItArn—rjIKSS association] "WELLINGTON", Wednesday Four charges of uttering counterfeit coins were preferred against Albert Henry O'Malley, ail unemployed barman, aged 39, in the Supreme Court yesterday. Detective Ritchie gave evidence that when he interviewed accused at O'Malley's room, saying lie had reason to believe accused had counterfeit halfcrowns in his possession, O'Malley replied that he had had two which he had passed at shops. Witness produced and read a statement made later and signed by O'Malley at tho detective office, in which accused said ho passed tho first halfcrown innocently, but when ho passed the second he knew it was not genuine. Tho halfcrowns, ho said, vvcro given him by a man who bought him a drink in a hotel bar. No evidence was given for accused. Mr. Justice MacGrcgor said the question came down to consideration of whether O'Malley knew when he passed the coins that they were not genuine. Tho jury returned a verdict of not guilty on tho first count and guilty on tho three others. O'Malley was remanded for sentence.
