BIRKENHEAD WOMEN
ASSOCIATION MEETS The. monthly meeting of (he Birkenhead Women's Association was held last week in tho Parish Hall, Airs. E. B. Gilfillan presiding. It was announced that tho amount collected in tho borough for the St. John Ambulance Association was £ls Bs, which included a donation from Birkdale. The Mayoress, Mrs. G. Mills, thanked all the members who had assisted in the collection. Mrs. Gilfillan reported on the September meeting of tho Auckland branch of the National Council of Women, bringing to the notice of members tho importance of being affiliated with the council, and the necessity for bringing forward any matters dealing with the welfare of women and children. Mrs. Bennett, J.P., gave an address on "The Status of the. Maori Woman, Past and Present," speaking also of her work in the Children's Court and as a member of the Akarana Maori Association.
