FINE OF £SO IMPOSED BETTING IN HOTEL BAR "This man has not been carrying on an extensive business, but he has been before the Court before," commented De-tective-Sergeant Kelly when James Henry Rogers, agent, aged 51, was charged in the Police Court yesterday with carrying on tlie business of a bookmaker. Rogers was arrested on warrant, yesterday afternoon by Detectives Mills and Moore. Ho pleaded guilty. ilr. Kelly said that, as a result of complaints, two constables went to the private bar of a city hotel and made bets with accused, on whom betting paraphernalia was found, Rogers apparently accepted bets mainly of 5s and 10s from men in tho hotel bar, Tho magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, imposed a fine of £SO, iii default three months' imprisonment. Rogers was allowed seven days in which to pay.
