SUCCESS OF THE SYSTEM IMPORTANCE EMPHASISED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WAIPUKURAU, Saturday A week's training of the First Battalion of the Hawke's Bay Regiment ended with battle practice operations, which were watched by Major-General Sinclair Burgess, officer commanding the New Zealand Forces; Colonel F. Symon and Lieut.-Colonel Gambrill, officer commanding the regiment. Addressing the territorials, General Burgess said he believed the new voluntary scheme was proving satisfactory. "Remember, you are not playing at soldiers," he said. "This real army, of which you are a part, is New Zealand's only army." General Burgess" urged that the recruits be kept up to the standard required, and expressed gratification that Colonel Gambrill had consented to carry on in th?, command, in which he had given every* satisfaction.
