MARRYING IN HASTE
WIFE FOUND IN THREE DAYS William Henry Evan Hughes, labourer, of Brompton, South Australia, recently offered a man £IOO to find him a wife within three days, so that ho could claim an estate of £11,500 which, ho said, his father had left him in South Africa. He borrowed money and clothes and the girl was found on time. In the Adelaide Polico Court later Hughes was sentenced to six months' imprisonment on a charge of having obtained £1 and £8 worth of clothing by false pretences. It was alleged that Hughes told his victim that he had been advised by Sir. Sandery, the public solicitor* that a draft for £SOO had been cabled to him from South Africa. Mr. Sandery gave evidence that ho knew nothing about it.
