NORTHCOTE WOMEN
LEAGUE MEMBERS' DAY The Northeote Women's Progressive League, at the monthly meeting, initiated steps with a view to securing a public telephone box for the upper portion of tho district, tlio location suggested being in the vicinity of the Gladstone Road corner of Orewa Road. Tho president, Mrs. F. W. Wilkes, presided. Current matters that are being dealt with by the National Couucil of Women were explained by tho delegate, Mrs. P. Howden, It was resolved to add tho league's protest to those of other bodies against tlio social problems created by Chinese association with Maoris. A " members' day" programme was submitted, and was greatly enjoyed. This included song 3 by Mrs. F. Max, Mrs. F. C. Swinbank, Miss Sarah Stacpoole, and Miss C. J. Williamson; addresses, "A Day iri Venice," by Mrs. D. P. O'Leary, and " A Night in Venice," bv Mrs. A. Campbell; pianoforte solos by Miss M.' E. Shutes; Irish humour by Miss E. Gillibrand; recitations by Mrs. B. Mayall; readings by Miss L. Tremain and Mrs. A. Taylor; and monologues by Mrs. A. E. Tremain. The accompanists were Mrs. T. Joll, Mrs. B. Mayall and Mrs. A. J. Hurley.
