SEAMEN DESERT SHIP FOURTEEN DAYS IN PRISON Sentence of 14 days' imprisonment was imposed in the Police Court yesterday on two seamen, Alfred Benjamin Ellis, aged 30, and Cornelius Patrick Murphy, aged 27, who were charged with deserting from the steamer Pinko at Auckland on September 28. They denied the offence, declaring that they had missed the ship accidentally. " Both men are undesirable immigrants under tho Act," said Detective-Sergeant Kelly. A representative of the iSew Zealand Shipping Company stated that the men could not be found when the vessel was due to sail and it had been delayed for some hours. , , „ . The theft of a sack of chaff from the Great North Road yard of A. B. Wright and Sons, Limited, early yesterday morning was denied by Ghana Ivuvarji, aged 30, hawker. The magistrate Mr. F. A. Hunt, imposed a fine of £4, in default 14 days' imprisonment.
