THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE ACTIVE TONE PREVAILS Conditions continued to It p. fairly active on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, 18 sales being made. A keen demand again existed for Government securities, but holders showed no readiness to release. In both 1938 and 1939 issues of bonds and stock bidders increased their offers, but holders were not quoted. There was no change in 1937 issues. Two sales occurred in local body debentures, Auckland Harbour Board, 1948, 5-i per cent, changing hands at £9B ss, an advance of 15s on the , last previous sale, and Auckland Drainage Board, 1936, 5 per cent, selling at £96 10s, an increase of £2. Banks were again inclined to firm. For New Zealands buyers advanced 2d to 465, at which price a sale was recorded. Offers for Nationals of New Zealand wero increased Is to £3 19s, and New Sputh Wales wero again sought at £2B. Unions sold at £7 18s 3d, which is 9d in excess of the previous sale, and . Commercials changed hands at 14s 6d, a reduction of 2d. The only sale in insurance was in South British, the price, 575, being on a par with recent transactions. Other quotations wero practically unaltered. With few exceptions values did not fluctuate greatly in miscellaneous sections. An accommodation movement was apparent in Auckland Gas, holders conceding 3d to sell at 21s 6d. Colonial Sugars were in demand, three parcels selling at the recent rate, £4B ss. For British Tobaccos buyers offered 31s 6d against holders' 325, and there was a late sale at 31s 9d. There was little variation in mining. Three parcels of Mount Lyells sold at 21s 3d, 21s 4d and 21s 2d, and Alexanders (13s 6d paid) were released at 17s cum div., a decline of 3d on an earlier sale. In Waihis two sales took place unchanged-at 17s 3d.
