HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST HEAVY RAIN AND THUNDER The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— The cyclone, which has increased in intensity, is moving on to the northern portion of the North Island. Expect further unsettled weather, with additional heavy rain in most districts, particularly in northern and east coast areas. Rivers flooded. Thunderstorms are likely in many parts of the Auckland Province, especially in North Auckland. Easterly to northeasterly winds, strong to gale, and squally. Rough to heavy seas on the east coast. Local outlook: Heavy rain ajid thunder. Mild temperatures. Barometer, midnight, fulling . . 29.70 in. Midnight, Sunday .. .. 29.85 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT ' The Government meteorologist reported last, evening as follows: —A fairly deep cyclonic depression is centred in the north ' Tasman Sea and a moderate anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia. Indications are for moderate to strong winds from between east and north, rising at times to gale force in the far north. Seas rather rough to rough on the east coast and in Cook Strait; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong east to north winds and rather rough to rough seas. Weather cloudy to overcast generally, with mist or fog in places. General rains from Nelson ancl Marlborough northward, with many heavy falls; elsewhere scattered rain developing. Temperatures mild.
