MILITARY BALL

A BRILLIANT SUCCESS The first military ball to be held in Cambridge for' a great number of years took place in the Town Hall on Thursday evening. There was an attendance of fully 400 from all parts of the Waikato, and a sprinkling from further afield. When the ball was at its height the ballroom presented a spectacular scene with the multi-coloured frocks of the ladies and the uniforms of the officers and other ranks. Ex-servicemen were present in representative numbers. The host and hostess were LieutenantColonel It. D. McFarland and Mrs. McFarland, of Hamilton.

Tho ball, organised by the Cambridge volunteers of the Waikato Regiment, was opened with full ceremonial. Prior to tho grand march a guard of honour, supplied by the Cambridge volunteers gave the Royal salute and the salute to the colours. In tlie course of his welcoming remarks tlfe host, Lieutenant-Colonel McFarland, spoke interestingly of the Waikato Regimental colours. At the close of his address Mrs. McDonald presented the hostess with a beautiful bouquet.

Tho committee of ladies and other officials were as follows:—Mrs. A. McDonald, Mrs. M. Kingdon, Mrs. C. Bovce, Mrs. M. Wells. Mrs. H. Williams, Mrs. N. Peake, Mrs. C. Kelly, Mrs. L. Nicholson, Mrs. Wi Howarth, Mrs. P. J. Scfton, Mrs. A. Hall, Mrs. Buttermore, Mrs. F. Cooper, Mrs. Power. Mr. P. Green was in charge of the floor arrangements. The dance music was supplied by Patterson's Syncopators, of Te Awamutu. The supper room decorations were carried out in the regimental colours, navy blue and gold. The regimental colours had a prominent place in the centre of tho stage in the ballroom.
