ST. JAMES' THEATRE A charming and delightful romance _ is woven throughout the fine production "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm," which is delighting patrons of the St. James' Theatre. Marion Nixon has the title role, and opposite liefr is Ralph Bellamy,_ as a young doctor, who makes the acquaintance of' Rebecca when she is journeying to her aunts' residence, which is surrounded with severe Puritan customs and conventions. A romance springs up between the two, which makes the aunts look on tho pAir with even more stern disapproval. Louise Closser Hale and Mao Marsh are remarkably good as the two straight-laced aunts, to whom anything new is looked upon with the deepest suspicion. Mario Dressier will be seen at the theatre soon in "Emma." PLAZA THEATRE The poignant story of a cripple girl's fight for health is told in "No Greater Love," tho principal attraction at the Plaza Theatre. Richard Bennett appears as a storekeeper, who adopts the little girl on the death of her mother. llow she is taken from him by a child welfare institution and eventually restored, cured, forms tho basis of one of tho most genuinely appealing films seen for a long time. Beryl Mercer, Alexander Carr and Dickie Mooro are others in the talented cast. There is a fine supporting programme. "Hollywood Speaks ' is tlio title of the next attraction at tho Plaza. Genevieve Tobin takes tho main role, opposite Pat O'Brien, remembered for his work in "Tho Front Page," recently.

REGENT THEATRE Richard Barthelmess adds considerably to his alroady fino reputation by his performance in "Alias the Doctor, which is the main attraction at the Regent Theatre. The film deals with a young Austrian farm boy who rises to tho pinnacle of successful surgery, only to discover that his work has been attributed to another, through tho ambition of his foster-mother. Marian Marsh, who scored such a success in "Beauty and tho Boss," ir. splendid in the main feminine role. To-morrow will be the last day for patrons of tho Regent Theatre to record their votes in tho beauty contest. The next programme at the Regent Theatre w ill be headed by "The Rich Are Always With Us," in which Ruth Chatterton takes tho principal role. The film will commence on Friday.

ROXY AND TIVOLI THEATRES A novel background has chosen for tho film "War Correspondent," which will conclude its season at the Roxy and Tivoli Theatres this evening. Jack Holt and Ralph Graves take the principal parts. The film is woven around tho adventures of a newspaper representative engaged in chronicling the events of the recent, sanguinary struggle between Japan and China. To-morrow a fine doublefcaturo programme will open a season. The main films will bo "The Captive Blonde/' which tells the story of the discovery of a white woman living in tho native fashion, and "The Missing Rembrandt." Tho latter film is one of the ever-popular Sherlock Holmes stories. Arthur Wontner takes the main role. CIVIC THEATRE

"Million Dollar Legs," at the Civic Theatre, is distinguished by an uncommonly fine cast of comedians, each of whom is well known to Auckland picture£joers. Jack Oakie, Ben Turpin, Andy Clyde and W. C. Fields have the principal roles, the film being an hilarious burlesque on the Olympic Games. It deals \wth tho republic of Klopstokia, the inhabitants of which are outstanding in tho athletic sphere. This characteristic is seized upon as a means of replenishing the state coffers, and practically the whole population departs for the, Olympic Games, where they meet with unqualified success. MAJESTIC THEATRE

The first, talking picture to be entirely filmed in Africa, "Congorilla," is being ■well patronised afc the Majestic Theatre. The production, which presents all the different phases of life in the Dark Continent," was made by Mr. and Mrs. Martin Johnson, courageous explorers, and the whole film is authentic. The most interesting aspect of the picture is the insight" which it provides into the life of the pygmies of the Itura Forest and the habits of the gorillas, which heretofore have been comparatively unknown to the white man. Thousands of other wild animals arc shown in their native haunts. NATIONAL THEATRE Tom Mix and his intelligent horse Tony are again thrilling audiences at the National Theatre. "Destry Rides Again" i.s the title of the gripping film, which deals with the efforts of a gang of criminals to thwart the popular candidate for the position of sheriff. He is imprisoned on a fictitious charge. llow ho eventually clears himself forms the climax o*f the picture. STRAND THEATRE Adapted from a story by "Sapper," the film at the Strand Theatre, "The Impassive Footman," is an enthralling mastery storv, dealing with the dilemma into which a doctor falls when ho is forced to perform an operation on the husband of the woman with whom he is in love. Owen Nares and Betty Stockfield are.in the principal roles. EMPRESS THEATRE "The Smiling Lieutenant" heads the programme at the Empress Theatre. The magnetic personality of Maurice Chevalier is the most attractive feature of the production. Miriam Hopkins and Genevieve Tobin take the principal feminine roles. LONDON THEATRE Gene Gerrard and Muriel Angolus are well cast in the delightful film "Let's Love and Laugh," to open a season at the London Theatre to-day. Tt is a musi(al co/ncdy, with many bright inteiludes that cannot fail to amuse. CRYSTAL PALACE AND RIALTO "Frail Women," a stirring story of disillusioned womanhood, beads this evening's programme afc the Crystal Falaco and Rial to Theatres. Owen Nares and Mary Newcomb are the principals. Miss Newcomb makes her first screen appearance in this production. BRITANNIA THEATRE Constance Bennett in "The Easiest Way" and "Mystery Ranch" are the main films to be screened afc the Britannia Theatre this evening.
