LUKE'S LOSES CHANCES The Kent Cup, played for annually hereon the winners of the two senior grado jockey competitions, was again won by Somervillo, winners of tho Davis Cup, which Sefeated St Luke's, holders of tho Devonfnrt Shield, by three goals to two in a ard game at Remuera on Saturday afternoon. In the nine years that tho cup has bee a competed for Somervillo held it continuously until last year, when North Shore, l n a gomo which required extended time, defeated the ex-champions.

The ground was rather slippery on SaturSay. hut the game was played at a fast haca throughout. Onco again tho weakness &f the St. Luke's forwards in tho circle iva3 the deciding factor in tho gaino. Soruerrillo did most of the attacking in the first half, but even then the stubborn St. Luke's tleience kept it out of the circle most of Iho time. It was only by seizing every jivailablo opportunity that Somervillo was nblo to scoro its three goals beforo halftime. In the second spell, St. Lukc',3 was felmosfc continuously in Somervillo quarters. Willi numerous opportunities going bessing, St. Luke's was unable to equalise I'no score beforo time.

Up and down play marked the opening fct3ge3, until a run by C. Watts and Wellbourne penetrated St. Luke's circle. F. Clark sent the ball away to Vipond, who, frith Grace, raced into Somervillo's quarters. A ,pass to Brown resulted in offside play, and further chances were lost. Finally 53. Watts secured control of the ball near tho halfway line, and, in a solo run, outfitted both fullbacks. Wattum ran out, hut tho tricky Somervillo centre forward ■was too good for him, and the ball was sent into the net, opening Somorville's score. The St. .Luke's left flank was working hard, but most of the attacks were frustrated before reaauing the circle. The Somervillo forwards broke away in a combined rush, hut Wattam ran to the circle edge and kicked clear. The ball, however, was immediately returned to the circle, and Seccombo, receiving a pass from tho left, swung the ball into the net at close quarters. The St., Luke's forwards retaliated, and attacks were sent down in quick succession, Grace and Vipond being most prominent. (The Somerville defence, however, was doing splendid work. Maxwell relieved the presEuro with a smart run, and, on his losing i his 6tick. E. Watts carried on. Wattam, however, made a good save. Somerville continued to press, and, although the defence held for some time, Seccombe finally saw his chance and sent the ball fast into the net. From the bully, St. Luke's took control of the ball, and Somerville was driven light back. A melee resulted right in the eoalmouth, N. Burnett and Vipond being well offside in shooting. The ball, however, was immediately returned, and St. Luke's seemed certain to score. At the conclusion of a splendid fast run, Vipond shot, but swung the ball too much. The pace slackened off in the last few minutes of the spell, which closed with the score:— Somerville, 3; St. Luke's, 0. St. Luke's attacked again from the opening bully and in a fast run the forwards invaded the circle. A shot by Brown was blocked by Vaile, but St. Luke's kept the ball within striking distance. Brown was seen in a speedy solo run which outstripped the defence, but his shot went wide. St. Luke's kept up the pressure, and shots by W. Burnett and Vipond wero sent back. For the first time in the second spell the St. Luke's circle was invadod when C. Watts end Wellbourne. raced down the wing. A. centre was intercepted, and St. Luke's shifted iplay back to the other end of the field. The wero keeping Somervillo penned up. the forwards being unable to finish the attacks off. For several minutes ■the ball was seldom out of Somerville quarters, and finally, from a corner, McLeod got position and sent the ball hard into the net. From the bully, Brown battled liis way down tho field, but Vaile was too good for him. Although for the next five or ten minutes St. Luke's was continually in the circle, c.hanes were not turned to advantage until, just before the call of time. N. Burnett sent tho ball into the ret.'from close range, the game ending: with the score:—Somerville, 3; St. Luke's,' 2. Messrs. A. "Williams and H. E. Watts Were referees.
