EMPLOYMENT OF BOYS
CAMPAIGN IN AUCKLAND SUM OF £722 CONTRIBUTED The organisation for the Auckland Boys' Employment Committee's apppal for £SOOO for its work is now in full operation, and preparations tor a number. of activities this week are completed. The campaign began on Saturday, and will continue until next Saturday, when a house-to-house collection throughout Auckland will be undertaken. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, has forwarded the following telegram to the committee:—"l desire to extend my very good wishes to the Auckland Boys' Employment Committea in its endeavour to find employment for our youths, and I support, without reservation, the public appeal for funds to assist toward solving the acute problem of juvenile unemployment. The names associated with this appeal are a guarantee that the money subscribed will be used to good advantage. By their response those who are able will help to brighten tho prospects of young people now out of employment, during their most impressionable years." The contributions received by the committee up to Saturday totalled £722.
With the additional funds at its disposal the committee proposes to continue 011 the lines of practical instruction in fanning and industry it has recently commenced. These forms of training arc regarded as being urgent, in view of thu growing problem of unemployment among youths and the peculiar difficulties of the times, and it is desired to extend the work considerably.
