EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD The following are extracts from tha New Zealand Herald of September 25, 1882: ' The four torpedo boats which have been telegraphed for by the Government should arrive in the colony in three or four ~ months. Colonel Scratchley recommends that the boats should be utilised for general purposes that may present themselves. In. any of the four ports where torpedo corps are not formed a number of the Artillery Corps will have to act as a torpedo corps. The Government, it will be remembered, made a grant of £SOO, conditionally on certain improvements being carried out, for fencing in the hot springs reserve at the Te Aroha township, and constituted the reserve, which contains some 20 acres, a domain. The conditions are that the land be fenced in and planted and that separate bathing sheds for the use of either sex be erected. The springs being upon the higher portion of the land the water can be inexpensively carried by gravitation into as many bathing houses as may be required, the baths to be so placed as to be emptied as often as need be from any impure water, etc.. and refilled. Mr. J. B. Whyte, who has taken some touble in ' the matter of getting this arrangement settled, is sending to Mr. Rolleston. Minister of Lands, the names of five Te Aroha residents to be proclaimed the new Domain Board.
