LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY
"THE GREAT ADVENTURE" WHIMSICAL BENNETT COMEDY The rehearsals for the Auckland Little Theatre Society's production of Arnold Bennett's whimsical comedy " The Great Adventure," are showing that, although the play is one calling for the fullest possible amateur talent, a splendid interpretation may be expected when the play is presented under the direction of Mr. Gaston Mervale in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on September 29 and 30, and October 1. The comedy is delightfully humorous, and although the play is by no means as " advanced " as the last two presented by the society have been, it is far from being banal. The light comedy leading part will be played by Mr. A. J. C. Fisher, and Miss
Mrs. Hugh Fenton as Honoria Looe. Eleanor Upton promises to create a distinctly favourable impression by her performance of the widow in search of a husband. Other members are Mr. L. O'Malley as a West End doctor, Mr. Raymond Reeve as an art collector peer, Mrs. Hugh Fenton as a priest's sister dabbling in water colour paintings, and Mrs. Cruickshf.nk as a deserted wife, with Mr. Dan Flood, as Rev. Father Looe. Perhaps the best scene of the play is " The. Curates' Scene," in which the twin ecclesiastics carry all before them. An unusual feature of a new Columbia recording of Schumann's " Traumerei," in the muted strings heard throughout. These enhance the dream like atmosphere and the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra, under Sir Han Godfrey is to be congratulated on the performance. No less beautiful is the recording of " Solveig's Song." from the Peer Gynt Suite which completes a very fine record.
