WHY YOU BLUSH
All the reasons for the habit of blushing are not, yet understood. The dilation of the blood vessels near the surface of the skin over the chest and face cannot be said to arise directly from fear. Blushing, the physiologist explains is the result of action bv the sympathetic nervous system, which receives lts-mstrm:-Hons from a part of the brain. This system of nerves controls all involuntary habits, including the digestive movements of the body's interior, blinking ot the eyes and the beating of the heart Pumping of the blood by the heait. itself originates in the muscles at the root, if the cl-eat vein, and lias been attributed to a habit inflicted upon human beings by the countless ages when life depended upon tidal movements. There are man> actions controlled by the Wjthe.c nerves. Fright will sometimes dilate the pupils, or, if the side of the neck is pinched, one pupil will dilate.
