PRINCESS ROYAL

SEVRES VASES A FAMOUS VINE The Princess Royal left Lord and Lady Lonsdale's shooting party at Lowtlier Castle in order to prepare to receive the King and Queen at Ilarewood House.

It would be the first time the King had been the guest of his daughter in her Yorkshire home, and he would probably find much to interest him during his short visit, remarks the writer. Out of doors there are the beautiful gardens originally laid out at a cost of £16,000, and recently extended and improved by the Princess and the Earl of Harewood. ~

The grounds contain the famous " Tokay " vine, measuring 70ft. long and 24ft. wide. It was planted in 1783. Within the 200-year-old walls of Harewood House are all sorts of priceless treasures. Robert Adam and Chippendale helped to furnish it. There are wonderful painted ceilings by Rebecci, Rose and Zucchi, plaques by Ivauffman and portraits by Reynolds, Iloppner and Lawrence. In the Great Gallery is a collection of china—largely Sevres —valued at over £200,000. A few years ago the late Earl refused an offer of £12,000 for three Sevres vases.
