RUINS OF ANCIENT CITY
Ruins of a great unknown Mayan city have been found in Southern Yucatan. More monuments arc found in these ruins than in any city of the Mayas ever explored by white man. The ruins were discovered by an American botanist, Mr. C. L. Lundell, and were examined by Dr. Sylvanus Morley, of the Carnegie Institution.
The city, called by the discoverer, Calakmul, meaning " the two adjacent hills," evidently was once a great religious centre. Many recorded dates, sculptured on stone markers, are expected to give new clues to the early history of the Maya Indians.
