TAURANGA HOSPITAL
PATIENTS FROM KATIKATI POSITION OF THE BOARD [from our own correspondent] TAURANGA, Friday The Tauranga Hospital Board, which met yesterday, was advised by the Director-(general of Health that in the ordinary course patients going from Katikati to Waihi for treatment could not be made'a liability of the Tauranga Board unless it hs.d consented to the Waihi Hospital Board treating those patients. That was definitely shown by the provisions of section 94 (4) of the Act, and the Tauranga Board should communicate with the medical practitioneis serving the Katikati area, requesting them to send all patients requiring hospital attention to the Tauranga Hospital. The letter further stated that the Tauranga Board should «dso communicate with the secretary of the Waihi Hospital Board advising him that the former woUiCi not be responsible for any cases treated in his hospital unless the previous consent of the Tauranga Board had been given, or unless it could be definitely established that the treatment afforded was Urgently required, and the patient could not reasonably be returned to tiie Tauranga institution. . The secretary of the Tauranga Boaru reported that he had acted on the mes indicated in the letter, and his action was approved. u ~ „ Advice was received that Mr. n. t->un had been re-elected as representative for the Te Puke contributory district on the Hospital Board. • Dr. R. A. Shore, for the DirectorGeneral of Health, wrote stating he Would be, pleased to know what was the position in regard to economies effected at the Te Puke Hospital during the present financial year. It was deeded to reply that the expenditure would be within the estimate for the half year, an was less than for the corresponding period The 6 secretary reported that the board had written off at March 31 last a sum of £485 18s 4d for the treatment Jlaoris and half-castes.
