HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST I ' UNSETTLED, WITH RAIN The following weather forecast, for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— A moderate westerly depression is moving on to the South Island, while another dis- t turbance is crossing the northern Tasman a Sea. Unsettled weather, with rain, is in- i dicated in western and southern districts, t Heavy rain, with flooded rivers, is ex- . pected in West Coast districts of the South Island. Mainly fair to fine in east _ coast areas. Westerly to north-westerly 1 winds, moderate to strong, squally at times. Rough seas southward of Cape ( Egmont and East Cape. Local outlook: 1 1 Unsettled, with intermittent rain, al- . tiiough fair intervals will intervene. ' i GOVERNMENT REPORT The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A moderate westerly depression has been crossing the South Island. Indications are for moderate to strong southerly winds in tho far south; elsewhere light to moderate northerly, but southerlies extending later as far as Cook Strait. Seas rough in Foveaux Strait; elsewhero smooth to moderate, but rising south of Castlepoint. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh northerly winds veering to south-easterly in the southern portion. Weather mainly lair to cloudy at first, but some showers in western and southern districts of tho South Island and later extending to parts of eastern districts.
