ACTIVE COMPETITION LONDON RATES MAINTAINED NEW ZEALAND CLIPS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON. Sept. 21 At the London wool sales to-day 11,806 bales, including 5690 from New Zealand, were offered and about 9815 were sold,. There was a buoyant market with active home and Continental competition. The opening prices wero fully maintained. New Zealand clips sold as follows: Greasy crossbred, "OEB," top price 9d, averago scoured and combing, "Brooksdale," 17£ d and 16Jd. The prices quoted are said to bo slightly m advance of the average rates at the London sales in September last year and are on a level with those ruling in the early part of tho November sales. Since that time values have shown a general downward trend. Tho first New Zealand sale will be held at Auckland on December 2. The possibility of limiting tho catalogue is mentioned, although this point has not yet been considered. It is not usual to limit the first few sales, but it may be necessary owing to tho heavy carry-over from previous years. If prices in London continue to rise heavy offerings are bound to come forward at the opening New Zealand sales. SALES AT SYDNEY PRICES HOLDING FIRM GOOD GENERAL COMPETITION (Received September 22, 8.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 22 At the Sydney wool sales to-day 12,308 bales offered and 11,535 were sold also 216 bales wero disposed of privately. There was good general competition and the market was strong at the previous day's rates. Greasy Merino sold to 16|d. AUSTRALIA'S CLIP SEASON'S POSSIBLE RETURN TOTAL OF APOUT £34,000,000 (Received September 22, 6.55 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 22 Wool experts declare that if prices remain at the present levels the financial return to Australia this year will be about £34,000,000. This would be slightly above last year's return.
