SUSPENDED FOR LIFE
RUGBY LEAGUE PLAYER ALLEGED ASSAULT ON REFEREE [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANG AREI, Thursday For the first time in the history of the Northland Rugby League the management committee decided to suspend a player for life at its meeting this week. This action was recommended by the judicial committee. The player concerned was a Maori, and according to the evidence he struck the referee from behind when leaving the field after a recent match. The player had been warned for rough play during the game. The recommendation has been forwarded to the New Zealand Council for endorsement.
