" w There »'i« generally classed tinder this \jjame shares in Companies which have no concrete assets or tangible business or ■undertaking to support them, and whicn are of their very nature somewhat of a jiamble," Mining shares, shares in companies for' the exploitation of Patents, and similar ventures readily fall into this ? at °" Cory. but. although not generally realised, all shares in new Companies or Companies about to be formed (unless such Companies ''are taking over established 'industrial undertakings) should be inc uded . inder the heading of Speculative Shares. -Xor the new flotations which ever succeed iVin carrying out the alluring promises made i ? to Inveators. or even continue to exist, leave .alone reaching a dividen f d pr °^'l cl { "~ stage, are, unfortunately, very few and far between. . , There are three axioms which should bo ; remembered by all persons who are ever tempted to take up Speculative Shares, and they are as follows: — (1) NO PERSON SHOULD EVER INiVVST rsr SPECULATIVE SHAKES OP LANY KIND WHO IS NOT PREPARED TO LOSE THE WHOLE OF HIS OR HER MONEY IF THE VENTURE FAILS The person who has a qmall amount ot capital, saved,, and who cannot well afford to'lose it, or any part of it, should shun entirely fihares in Mining Ventures, Patent concerns, and the like, and all shares in licw Companies which are not thoroughly established and proved to be sound. (2) IF YOU ARE INCLINED TO TAKE UP SHARES IN WHAT APPEARS TO .BE AN. ATTRACTIVE NEW PROPOSITION. or in ANY MINING OR PATENT 'VENTURE, and can afford the risk, BE SURE BEFORE YOU DO SO THAT YOU HAVE A CHANCE OF WINNING. In the majority of propositions which come before the public, " the dice are loaded " against the Investor before commencement, and he never has a gambler's chance. Before investing not only make the- most thorough independent searching inquiries, but seek the advice of those skilled and competent •to judge. -- (3) IF YOU DO SPECULATE, AND THE SHARES YOU BUY RISE IN VALUE, SELL AT ONCE AND TAKE "YOUR, PROFIT, Persons who have bought shares which r:se in N value are always tempted to hang on with the desire of obtaining.still more profit, and generally with disastrous results. Be satisfied with a Email profit. Never mind if the shares go still higher. You have your profit and your money free. The chances are if you do •wait fpr big things they will never materialise,'and you will lose. To these three axioms there might be added one more—lf you are fortunate in one venture don't make a practice of speculating, for you will lose eventually no matter bow clever or careful you are, just as surely as the man who continually backs horses must lose. The careful Investor will find it much better and he will, be a richer man in the long run if he leaves speculation entirely alone. < IF YOU WANT SOUND ADVICE AS TO YOUR INVESTMENTS AND AS TO ANY PROPOSITION PUT BEFORE YOU, Consult e. j. g reen - STOCK, AND SHAREBROKER, BANK OF N.Z.
