NOTES ON THE RACING MINERVAL'S CONSISTENCY ONLY ONE OUTSIDER SCORES [by TELEGRAM—OWN correspondent] ■ TIMARU, Thursday Sports King was made a few tickets better i favourite than Morena for the First Hurdles Handicap, but when making a run up to the leaders six furlongs from home appeared to be crowded and crashed. Nine of Spades took charge at this point and led Morena to the Straight entrance, where the latter nfino?) fr m ; u of Shades made a deterhiil u- 01 f - 11 ? ? ri ln home, but Morena fjffi <1 - m . f , alrl y decisively. Hounslow ran into third place rounding the home turn and gave promise of taking part in the finish, out tired over the last furlong. Conjurer 11. was a poor fourth. Royal Game fell heavily at the first fence. The Ohapi Hack. Handicap had to be decided in two divisions. Lady Zephyr. Worship and Hurlingham closely contested favouritism. In the first division Worship hopped out smartly and was not troubled to win by two lengths from Grand Review, who finished on to beat. Purse and Silver Streak on the post, with Lady Zephyr next. Argentic lost a lot of ground at the start and failver Streak also got away badly. Hurlinirham had a very comfortable win in the second division. Minerval outclassed the opposition in the Geraldine Cup and scored his third successive win. lie was always one of the leaders and was being kept in restraint when following Red Racer and Done Jose. Red Racer had a length advantage from Minerval entering the home run but in a few strides the latter forged to the front. Although Mount Boa put in a characteristic finishing run Minerval had plenty in hand and won with a length to spare. Mount Boa was over that distance in front of Red Racer, with a trao of three lengths to Black Mint. Investors showed reasonably sound judgment in summing up the field for the Geraldine Trot, the three best supported horses filling the places. Titri, who finished third, was the unlucky contestant, as sho was badly interfered with by the early oacemaker. Preface, who broke when in front near the lialf-mile. The Riccarton-trained Roval Sceptre created a mild surprise by winning the Squatters' Handicap fronj end to end. Gallant Fox. Inevitable. Red I?oyal and Night Recital closed 011 tho leader slightly in the run home, but he had too much in reserve and stayed on to beat his stablcmate Red Royal. The latter, who was bracketed with the Oraritrained Inevitable, beat A 1 Jolson in the last stride. Mataa wns badly left. Metal Bird, second choice for the Raukapuka Handicap, recorded an attractive win from Some Good. Flower finished well into third place, with Elude close up. The favourite Knocklong, who had a bad passage, was near the rear. The only double-figure dividend of the day was returned in the Orari Trot, Nobleman winning his first race from the barrier rise* Nothing had a chance of troubling him in the run home. Rational 11. was sent out about an evenmoney favourite for the Belfield Handicap and showing a big improvement on his Ashburton form, duly won, but only after a neck and neck struggle with Adelphi. The favourite gradually wore down Adelphi. but only had a head margin to spare at the finish. Ranelagh, after weakening at the straight again at the business end to beat Coomassie on the post for third money.
