OKARITQ OPERATIONS FOUR-WEEKLY RETURN The Okarito Five-Mile Beach Gold Dredging Company, Limited (South Westlancl), lias issued the following report for the four weeks from August 13 to Septem-' ber 10:—Total gold won, HOoz. 3d\vt.; total time worked, 445 hours; total non- > working time, 131 hours; total .yardage treated, 24,100, an average of 54 cubic, yards an hour. Average value of ground (on basis of gold worth £4 an ounee,l, 4£d. a cubic yard. ( WAIPORI QUARTZ MINING ' A report from Lawrence (Otago) indicates that prospecting work in tlia neighbourhood of what is known locally as. the Cosmopolitan reef, which is ahoufc five miles north of "Waipori township, on the slopes cf the Lammerlaw Valley is being carried on steadily. In® unwat'srinc of the shaft has been accomplished, and at a. depth of 50ft. the reef is opening up nicely. From the surface down to the level indicated the quartz shows improving dish prospects. The lode is 18in. in width, and has been traced for about a mile. The neighbouring countrv has long been known to carry quartz lodes, some of which have liad a surfacs scratching, with indications of carrying gold-bearing stone.
