RIFLE SHOOTING

WHANGAREI DEFENCE CLUB [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday There was a largo attendance at the annual meeting of the Whangarei Defence Rifle Club. The president, Mr. J. H. Ashton, presided. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, tho prosident congratulated tho club on tho very successful season, and the improvement in the etandard of shooting. The club championship was won by Mr. N. C. Shepherd, and the haudicnp aggregate by Mr. J. H. Ashton. The rose bowl was won by N. C. Shepherd. J. Harland holds tho leading position in the Fisher Shield competition, and in the Marshall Cup com- [ petition Messrs. M. Stewart, J. Norris and J. Ha'rlond have three wins. Tho following officers were elected:—President. Mr. J. H. Ashton; vice-president, Mr. J. Norris; secretary, Mr. Slade Clarke; committee, Messrs. N. C. Shepherd, Wilton, E. Foot. W. Norris J. OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday The Whangarei Miniature Hitle Club held a shoot on Tuesday evening for the Plumbers Cup. This was the final shoot for this trophy for tho season. Following were tho results:—Transport, 828 points, 1; Northern Advocate, 322, 2: Public Service, 307, 3. The other scores were: Bargain Store A, 290: North Auckland .Regiment, 292; Wallace Supplies, Limited, 290; Boot, Repairers, 253: Polico, 220: Kia Ora Taxis. 219; Bargain Store B, 208. A further shoot was held in the Vickers rifle competition. H. C'owper and W, Norris both shot the possible 70 off the. rifle. Other good scores were: M. Stewart, 08, J—o9; C. Baker, 68, 1—09; ,T. Lilley," 06, 3—09.
