THE WHEAT DUTIES

Sir, —In your issue of September 13, " Pro Bono Publico " suggests that the Auckland Chamber of Commerce should call a public meeting and let the people know the full facts regarding the wheat and flour duties. Wheatgrowers throughout the country would welcome such a move, provided, of course, that actual facts, backed by figures, were given to the meeting and that the Auckland Chamber did not confine itself to general statements as has been its policy in the past. The people should bo told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, and allowed to judge for themselves as to whether or not protection should be granted to the wheatgrowing industry. J. L. Pepper, Christchurch.
