COMBINED BREEDERS' SALE IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES [from our own correspondent] . HAMILTON. Thursday A much-improved demand was experienced at the second day of the Waikato Combined Breeders' Association's annual sale of pedigree bulls at the Claudelands Show Grounds to-day, when yearling and two-year-old Jerseys were offered. A large attendance of buyers was present. Although no remarkable prices were realised, a very satisfactory average was maintained. Of the catalogued offering of 169 head, 109 bulls were disposed of at an average price of 18|gns. The 122 yearling and two-year-old Jerseys which changed hand 3 on the second day of last year's sale realised an average of only The top price of to-day's sale was 40gns., which was paid for two bulls, Mr. T. Church's Jersey Brae Sun and Mr. F. J. B. Ryburn's The Oaks Sun God. The highest price realised on the corresponding day last year was 32gns. Following were the principal sales:— Mr. T. There was a brisk sale, few animals being passed. Best dairy cowa and heifers at profit made from £9 10s to £l2; i good cows and heifers at profit, £& 10s to £9; aged and backward, £4 10s to £5 10s; small and weedy, £2 to £3 15s; best cows in milk, £7 to £ll ss; others, £2 to £6 IDs; aged and inferior, 15s upward. There was a large yarding of beef and store cattle. Values were on a par with those of recent sales. Ltd., reports having held its weekly dairy sale in the Frankton saleyards oil Wednesday, when a good entry came forward, including some choice springers, which sold under keen competition, prices improving considerably on lat<» rates. A pedigree Jersey heifer, "Avenel Lady." was sold for lOgns, while a pedigree Jersey cow, "Distinction's Gipsy," also realised lOgns. Extra choice dairy cows made up to £l2; genuine dairy cows, £8 to £8 15s; poorer sorts, £4 ,10s to £5 10s: choice Jersey-cross heifers, £8 5s to £9; choice Shorthorn heifers, £7 15s to £9; choice Jersey heifers, £8 to £8 15s; backward heifers, £5 15s to £6 10s; smaller heifers, £4 to £5 ss. VALUES AT FRANKTON The New Zealand Loau and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, reports having held the weekly sale of dairy stock on Wednesday, when a fair yarding came forward. There was a ready sale for good forward backward and inferior sorts also meeting with keener competition than at previous sales. Good quality cows were in keen demand. Values were:—Choice Jersey heifers, close to profit, £8 to £8 10s; backward heifers, £6 to £7; inferior heifers. £3 to £4 15s: good dairy cows. £7 to,£9 15s: backward sorts, £3 to £5: inferior cows, £1 5s to £2 10s. MATAM AT A Q UOTATION S Dalgefy and Company. Ltd.. held the usual fortnightly stock sale at Matamata on Wednesday. Good yardings of all classes of cattle were totally cleared by a large attendance of buyers. Prices were:—Cattle: Fat Shorthorn steers, £6 to £6 15s: fat cows, £3 to £4 6s; forward-conditioned cows, 26s to 325: boner and store cows. 8s to 10s; best springing heifers, £7 10s to £9; others, £5 5s to £6 15s; dairy cows, £3 to £4 53.
