BEAUTIFYING SOUTH ROAD PAY FOR DRAINAGE WORK The Otaliuhu Borough Council decided last evening not to fence or plant trees on the Great Sc»th Road frontage of the Municipal quarry at Westfield. The suggestion that this should be done was submitted by the Great South Road Beautifying Council, but the finance committer of the council rejected the proposal on account of the expense involved. It. was decided, however, to employ relief workers in clearing up the waste and rubbish on the reserve adjoining the overhead bridge at' Westfield, as was also suggested. The finance committee reported that, it had called for an estimate of the amount which would be involved in paying the relief workers employed on the Tamaki drainage scheme an additional 2s a dayAssuming. that the labour costs would total £2OOO the sum of £250 would be ■ required to make the additional payment The committee' had no recommendation to make and merely submitted particulars for the council's decision. In the absence of the Mayor and other members it was decided to defer consideration.
