iTHE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE LEADING ISSUES IMPROVE r A definite firming tendency marked operations on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when several leading issues recovered after temporary setbacks. ■Most business passed at fully late rates. Buying support for Government securities was slightly weaker, particularly in the case of the 1937 per cent issues of stock and bonds. These were all sought at £9B 155,, representing a decline of ssi in respect of both September and February issues, of bonds and February stock. Offers for 1938 4£ per cent stock were 5s lower at £94 10s. Two parcels of 1937 54 per cent stock changed hands at £96 ss, which is £2 5s lower than a cum div. salo last month. Banks shared in the market recovery. % [Australasias were sought Is higher at £9 11; and offers for "Unions were the same amount higher at £7 12s 6d. Quotations ■were withheld in both instances. For Commercials offers rose by 2d to 14s 9d and a sale was made 3d higher at 15s, which price, Id in advance, was quoted by holders. New Zealands were released Id higher at 47s 4d, but later a lot was secured at 47s 3d. At the close offers were 3d higher, at 47s 3d, quotations at 47s 6d being unchanged. Levels in the insurance group were fully maintained, the only change being a rise of 3d to 43s 6d in quotations for New Zealands, in which there was a sale at 435, an unchanged price. Transactions in the general sections disclosed some substantial advances. New Zealand Breweries were done Is 7d higher at 29s 6d. Offers were increased by 9a to 295, seller? asking 30s. Holders did not quote for Tooths, which were sought Is higher at' 28s 9d. There were two sales in Australian Glass unchanged at 38s and levels remained stationary. For Colonial Sugars offers rose by 15s to £47 15s, eliciting a quotation of £SO from holders. •Farmers' Fertiliser changed hands 2s 8d higheir at 16s 6d. A sale in Wilsons Cements higher at 33s was accompanied by a rise in offers of Sd to 32s 9d and in quotations of 6d to 33s- 3d. The mining market was slow. Waihis changed hands Id lower at 16s lid with no alteration in levels. Mount Lyells were secured '6d lower at 20s 6d, following which the previous price was re-estab-lished in company with an advance in levels.
