LOADING WORK REFUSED
NEW PLYMOUTH WATERSIDERS SOME CARGO LEFT BEHIND [BY TELEGRAPH—rRESS € association} NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday ■ Because the watersiders refused to work during the meal hour or to come back at night, the Port Huon left for Napier at 6.30 p.m. , without some cargo, and 37 carcases of pork were not loaded. The men ceased work at 5 p.m. No reason was given for their rei'usa] to Work overtime. Tha Tekoa had completed loading earlier and sailed for Wanganui. TROUBLE AT NAPEER OLD RATES DEMANDED [BT TELEGRAFH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] f NAPIER. Tuesday When a call was made this morning for extra labour to work the Union Company's steamer Poolta, the watersiders declined to work, insisting on the old award rates of pay. However, the men engaged yesterday continued to work under the new rates. The feeling among local watersiden appears to be that it is time something definite was done by the conference oi watersiders and employers at .Wellington.The next call for labour will be tomorrow morning, when the Paua will require labour to discharge an oil cargo.
