ELLERSLIE TRAINING

VANDYKE'S FIVE FURLONGS CATOMA GOES SIX SOLIDLY YOUNG HORSES AT BARRIER BY ARCHER A good deal of useful work was performed nt Ellerslio yesterday, when the best efforts included a smart five furlongs by Vandyke and half a mile by On Approval and Landlubber. Nearly all the fast work was accomplished on the No. 1 grass, which provided good going. Ruling King, carrying a medium weight, ran his first three in 38 3 5s and finished up six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. He has been workins; with plenty of freedom and may race better this season. Catoma, after running the first two in 255. completed six furlongs in 1.19 1-5. Catoma does not exert himself unduly on the track, but he has been working very satisfactorily and should be in good trim for the spring meetings. Vandyke, with a fair weight in the saddle, placed five furlongs behind in 1.5 1-5. 1 his was a useful gallop and Vandyke did it well, hitting out boldly and finishing very strongly. Tarporley (Baker) pleased better than Vilma (McTavish) over three furlongs in 38 2-ss. Tarporley has not been overtaxed lately, but is thriving well and should come on Quickly with a few gallpps. On Approval (Murray) was slightly in front of Landlubber (Jillings) at the end of half a mile in 50 3-ss. On Approval was troubled with a cold a short while ago, but has thrown it off and is now making some improvement. Landlubber is doing nice y and he was not knocked about in the gallop. Puriri Park's EBort Puriri Park and Royal Survey went very evenly over six furlongs, running the first three in 40s and the full distance in 1.20 3 5. Puriri Park revelled in his work and is making excellent progress in his prepara(Smith) 'finished just ahead of Lord Aintree (Stanway) after running nvo furlongs in 1.5 3-5, (he first two in 2Gs. Traced worked with plenty of dash and so did Lord Aintree, who was under restraint at the finish. Hampton Pork (Parsons) and Kiltowyn (•E. Manson) ran an easy six furlongs in 3 24 3-5 They arc working well arid will be ■ very fit when the spring campaign in Auckland commences next month. Marching Song (Camnnck) and Patutahi (Baker) were associated over a round in 1 50 2-5. They covered the last tnreo lur longs ~ in 41 2-5s and were both running on strongly at the end. . Cynthia N. (Nesbit) strode over six furlon "b in 1.26 4-5, and Roman Mascpt (Clark) was timed to run five furlongs in ].9. Roman Mascot was not extended and could have run much better time. Claremore and Haakon Claremore (L. Dulieu) and Haakon (Murray) encompassed a round in 1.51, running the last three furlongs in lis Ihese jumpers are very bricht and healthy and should strip very well when required to race again. Some of Ihe two-year-olds nnd novices were given barrier practice and tjiey were despatched from the mile post on the course proper. Ladv Winifred© (Caintnick) begun smartly in the first batch to go and led I ' Hunting March (McTavish) and Bright Flower (Mcßho) over three furlongs in j 39 2-ss. Wee Pat, Gay Broney and Barn Dance were also sprinted from a barrier i start nnd ran three furlongs in 39 3-ss. finishing practically together. Supreme , Ruler and Chief Emerald also went to the barrier and Supremo Ruler afterwards [ dashed over three furlongs on the grass m 38 4-ss. , , , Absent (Craddoek) jumped the steeplechase fences on the flat ill good style and \ afterwards did strong work. ■ BRONZE EAGLE'S MOVEMENTS DEPARTURE FROM TAKANINI Although he was taken up again eome weeks ago Bronze Eaglo bas o t been noticed doing any work on the Takamni tracks. Yesterday he whs entrained at iakanini and it is understood that ho was eent . to Mr. W. C. Ring's property at Hinuera. ' Although no definite pronouncement can be ' made, it looks as if it will bo some time t before he reappears on the racetrack, r ~~ TROTTING at te awamutu 1 . 1 1 FOURTEEN HORSES IN WORK <j ~ g [from our own correspondent] a TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday With the advent of E. N. Kennerley to •- Te Awamutu, trotting in this centre eecmato have revived, and at the moment there g arc 14 pacers and trotters attending the w tracks.

E. N. Kennerley has six horses, Peter Pirate, Pegaway, Heal Girl, Grand | Triumph, a maiden by The Triumph from Maud Audubon, and a Worthy Bond mare. The first three are all doing well and look bright. Grand Triumph, a trotter, shows patches of speed, and has a good style, but is liable to break for no apparent reason. However, lie is improving. Ihe JViaud Audubon filly shows quality. A pacer, the little work given her to date has jj} "er , be c.n attractive mover. The Worthy Bond mare was rather backward in condition when she joined the team, and little has been asked of her, but she is building up nicely. . i • R i>. Kennerley has Brentlight under his charge. An honest little fellow, Brentlight appeared only good enough to get beaten in the South Island, and has filled numerous minor placing in very fair company He has done well since coming JNorth, and should prove dangerous in his class. \V. Pollard has resurrected the aged Peter Reta gelding Peter Tracey. Peter Tracey was never above the averago and as he is not likely to have improved, the class will have to be weak if he is going to pay hi 3 Cogent is back again in work under T. Nicholson. Last season, she showed some speed in her races and was a bit unlucky. The same trainer has a maiden trotter by The Triumph in work. , . . The speedy Inverness is back under bis owner, T. Martin, ami looks hardy. If he regained his early form. Inverness would be more than a possibility over a short course. Martin also has a four-year-old mare, undeistood to be by The Triumph from Inclement. This mare lias done. very little on the track but in short sprints with the hopples on has shown rare speed and style A W. Broughton has only one horse at present, that is Stormy Mack. Ihis fellow can istep a smart mile, but appears to be deficient in stamina. However, ho is improving, and should not go long without nicking up a stake. , , J Edwards does not give Tvolmar a great deal of trackwork, but puts in a lot of time on the road Tlus treatment appears to agree with Kolmar. but, while ho is i good trotter, ho finds his present mark hard. ________
