CONTROL OF CRICKET

DELEGATES' VOTING POWERS j BALMORAL CLUB'S PROPOSAL | Hie delegates to the annual meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association to-mor-row evening will be called upon to pass their opinion on a motion, of which notice has been given by the Balmoral Club,, for a drastic change in the voting powers of club delegates. When the rules of the association were revised and adopted in 1928, they were so constructed as to give the senior clubs control of the •association's affairs. This constitution is by no means uncommon in sports bodies, because the senior clubs are usually the mainstay and nearly always contain the more experienced men, while it is not reasonable to expect that junior clubs, at any rate, should be able to vote themselves into power. At present each of the eight senior clubs is entitled to three delegates with two votes each, making 48 in all. Each of the nine junior clubg is entitled lo two delegates with one vote each, making a total of 18 votes, while there are 23 other clubs with one delegate and one vote. There are, therefore, 48 senior votes to 41 junior votes. The Balmoral Club is moving to have the rules altered so that every delegate shall be entitled to one vote. This is a fairly bold proposal and one which requires the serious consideration of the delegates. If the proposed alteration were carried there would be 24 senior votes to 41 junior. As any motion for alteration of rules must receive the consent of a three-fifths majority of the delegates present at tl/o meeting, every senior club is likely to be represented by its full quota of delegates to-morrow evening. The number of junior clubs is certainly greater than the number of senior clubs, but the mere fact oi : their being junior clubs excludes them from equality of rights with the senior clubs. ,
