NATURE'S LAWS
Sir,—True, New Zealand is a free country, as long as we exercise a freedom that does not cut into; our fellowman's. The essence of our legislation is to protect our society against wrong-doings by individuals with an under-developed social instinct. But, ■ like everything else, our legislation has not yet reached perfection—if ever it will. We can all—according to our individual development point afc flaws in our laws, recommending alterations either toward greater freedom or severer restrictions. As to the Sabbath law, it has been brought down to us from tho Mosaic laws. At the time Jesus of Nazareth lived in Palestine its observance had become almost an intolerI able burden placed on the common people I by the Pharisees and the But Jesus, with His higher degree of spirituality, lifted the yoke off their shoulders by His healing work on their Sabbath, also by permitting his disciples to satisfy their hunger when passing through a cornfield on the Sabbath. As then, so now—we ntill have Pharisees among us. In the strong emphasis laid on the moral laws, oui church people overlook the laws laid dowr, in nature to govern our physical life whereby the Divine wisdom- manifests it self more readily to every one of us. As a member of an ultra-orthodox family with three church ministers inclyded, have had ample opportunity for clos observation, and to, the best of my know ledge the clergy and the church peopl< I have met in New Zealand think and liv< along the same lines as does tho sam< category in mV home country. Therefore without the slightest hesitation I saj every one of us, clergy and church peopl included, with very few exceptions, if any is violating these laws almost every tim we sit down to a meal. How many of u consume plain and wholesome food ? Ou food, as given to us by mother nature, i ruined by our over-preparations and ou mixing "a little of everything." Pleadinj ignorance does not save us from tho con sequences. Wo all carry tho penalty o our sins—t-a premature death. Included 1 tho laws for our physical "wellbeing ar sunshine and fresh air. those of u who arc deprived thereof during the week days get plentv of it on their Sunday* So we fulfill one of the Divine laws.
