THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE MARKET REMAINS STEADY Steady conditions prevailed on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, average business passing at approximately current rates. The market closed with levels well maintained.

Previous offers were renewed for Government securities, with the exception of 1937 SJ, per cent February stock, which was sought 5s higher at £99. A parcel of the September 1937 per cent stock changed hands 2s 6d higher at £99. Ihe 1937 SJ, per cent February bonds were done at £99 2s 6d, which is £2 5s lower than the cum interest price obtained a month ago. There was a fair turnover in banks and insurance, buying support for which was almost wholly unchanged. For Commercials offers at 14s 8d were Id higher, quotations being unchanged at 15s. After sales at £7 12s, £7 lis and £7 lis 6d successivcly,, compared with the last previous transaction at £7 lis 6d, Unions were sought finally unchanged at £7 9s. Holders conceded 6d in quoting at £7 _ 12s. National Insurance were done 6d higher at 14s 6d, followed by another sale at 14s Bd. -At the final call holders did not quote and offers were unchanged 6d. There were two sales in South British unchanged at 58s, after which quotations were 3d lower at 58s 3d, buyers continuing to offer 57s 6d. In the other sections brewery issues attracted higher offers, both New Zealands and Tooths being- sought at 28s, an advance of 3d in each case. Holders of New Zealands quoted unchanged at 28s 9d, there being no quotations for Tooths. British Tobaccos were sought 6d higher at 29s 6d, quotations at 30s 6d being 3d higher. A parcel of Colonial Sugars was placed 5s higher at £46 ss. Holders were not quoted, but offers at £45 were renewed. In response to a rise in offers of 3d to 32s 3d, holders of Wilsons Cements conceded 6d in quotations at 32s 9d. In mining offers for Blackwaters were increased by 3d to 18s 6d and quotations showed a rise of 9d to 20s, Waihis changed hands at 16s 9d and later twice at 16s Bd, the previous figure being 16s lid. Holders of Mount Lyells, which were sought 2d lower at 20s, firmed at 21s 6d, an advance of 9d.
